Zerofivers to return to training on 4th August

Friendlies against Würzburg, Stuttgart and Sandhausen - Training camp to take place in Mainz

Mainz will be staying close to home for the duration of pre-season ahead of the 2020/21 season.

1. FSV Mainz 05 have confirmed their pre-season schedule ahead of the 2020/21 season. Following the obligatory medical and fitness tests, as well as Covid-19 tests, the Zerofivers will return to training on Tuesday, 4th August at the Bruchwegstadion.

Team to play four friendlies

Together with the club's organisational partner, onside sports, Mainz 05 have arranged to play four pre-season friendlies. Due to the hygiene measures still in place, all of these friendlies will take place against first to third division teams that have been tested for Covid-19. The matches will also take place behind closed doors. The Zerofivers will face Würzburger Kickers on Saturday, 15th August (2x 60 minutes, kick-off: 14:30 CEST), followed by VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday, 19th August (2x 45 minutes, kick-off: 16:00 CEST). Finally, the team will play SV Sandhausen on Saturday, 22nd August (likely 2x 60 minutes, kick-off: 14:00 CEST). A fourth friendly is also planned for Wednesday, 12th August; however an opponent has yet to be confirmed. All four friendlies will take place at the Bruchwegstadion. Mainz 05 will offer fans a variety of options in order to watch the games, with information to follow on the club’s official channels.

Training camp to take place in Mainz

In light of the uncertainty still surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, Mainz 05 have decided to host their pre-season training camp in Mainz. The Zerofivers will take part in a six-day training camp from August 17-22, and will stay at the Favourite Parkhotel in Mainz. All training sessions will take place at the Bruchwegstadion.

“Planning for this year’s training camp was much more difficult than in past years, due to the Coronavirus,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “Not only do we have ensure that the sporting and business conditions are in order, but we also have to pay attention to the hygiene measures. We thought about it for a long time, and have arrived at the decision to remain in Mainz and to host our training camp at home. We have top-quality facilities here, both at the Bruchweg and at the Favourite Parkhotel, and can organise team events both at home and in the surrounding areas. It also makes it easier to work with the local health authorities to find a way for us to host our fans for the annual evening with the team during training camp.”

All training sessions to take place behind closed doors

While all training sessions will continue to take place behind closed doors, Mainz 05 remain in close contact with the local authorities and are working to organise a variety of events for fans to celebrate the upcoming Bundesliga season with the team. Further information on these events will follow shortly.
