SCHRÖDER: "MIXED FEELINGS"
The Sporting Director on a "well-deserved point" against Hoffenheim - "Moment of luck" missing
According to Rouven Schröder, the Zerofivers earned a "strongly deserved point" on Sunday evening against Europa League participants, Hoffenheim. The fact that they didn't get the three points after Robin Quaison's lead, which came after excellent work by Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jean-Paul Boëtius, was to do with the period of play after taking the lead, when Mainz conceded and let the visitors into the game. The equaliser after the break was coming. Although the Zerofivers came back into the game and threatened to get a winner, the moment of luck failed to materialise in the end.
Voices from the OPEL ARENA
Sporting Director Rouven Schröder: "In the first half, we were in good order, playing well and got exactly what we wanted. We put in hard work and then countered aggressively after winning the ball. That's how the opening goal, which was beautifully made, came about. Afterwards we didn't do enough, we defended compactly, but lost the ball too quickly. So Hoffenheim came into the game bit by bit and fully deserved to make it 1-1. Afterwards we saw a learning process, the team continued calmly and looked for the moment of luck. It fell to JP Mateta who hit the post and Jeremiah St. Juste had opportunities from two corners. In the end it is a well-deserved point, we are in a good way. Nevertheless we have to stay focused. In Bielefeld we can expect a lot from a direct competitor against whom we want to get all three points".
