Mainz 05’s away game at 1. FC Köln on Saturday afternoon will take place behind closed doors at the Rhein-Energie-Stadion. This decision was made in accordance with the state government of North-Rhein Westfalion on Tuesday, in order to lessen the spread of the coronavirus.
“Although we regret the fact that our game on the weekend will be played in front of no fans, we of course accept the decision. The health of the fans comes first,” said Stefan Hofmann, club and board chairman of 1. FSV Mainz 05.
All fans who bought tickets for the game away at 1. FC Köln and/or for the Mainz 05 fan bus to Cologne will receive compensation. Anyone who has bought tickets in the online ticket shop or by phone will automatically be refunded their money using the payment method they used to buy the tickets.
All fans who bought their tickets for the match in the Zerofiver Fanshops or the OPEL ARENA box office can take their tickets to the Zerofiver Fanshops in the arena or in Mainz city centre (Seppel-Glückert-Passage) and at the office of 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Issac-Fulda-Allee, fill out the form there and get their money reimbursed there.
It is not yet clear whether Mainz' upcoming home game against RB Leipzig on Friday, March 20th will also take place behind closed doors. Mainz 05 is in close contact with the local health authorities and will inform all fans immediately in the event of new developments via the Mainz website and its social media channels.
