Kevin Stöger signs for Mainz
Schröder: "...a box-to-box midfielder who is always active, can pass and run with the ball".
Kevin Stöger has joined Mainz 05. The 27-year-old Austrian has signed a two-year contract with FSV until the summer of 2022. The central midfielder was out of contract after his former club Fortuna Düsseldorf were relegated so he joins Mainz on a free transfer. For Fortuna, the former junior Austrian international played 42 Bundesliga games in two years (one goal, twelve assists). He played 98 games in the second Bundesliga (nine goals, 16 assists) for his previous clubs VfL Bochum, SC Paderborn and 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder says: "Kevin Stöger has exciting qualities as a player and has been on our radar for a long time. He is at home in central midfield as a box-to-box midfielder who is always active, can pass and run with the ball. With his left foot he also adds to our set-piece options."
