Beierlorzer: "The team gave everything today"
Achim Beierlorzer, Steffen Baumgart and Rouven Schröder give their thoughts on Mainz' 2-0 win over Paderborn.
Achim Beierlorzer: “It was an incredibly intense game, in which both teams knew the stakes. It’s a huge step for us, and the team today gave everything. Intensity, strength in the tackle and making good runs, everything was good. These are the kind of qualities we have to put on show every week, especially in big games like this. Added to these team ethics was the plentiful individual quality that came with the goals. They helped us go into the break with a comfortable lead. The weather didn’t make the play very exciting, but in the crucial moments we were able to make our contributions count. The three points today are hugely important.”
Steffen Baumgart: “It was a deserved win for Mainz, because we weren’t able to win the decisive tackles. You can’t survive in this division if you’re unable to do that. Apart from that it was a pretty balanced game. It’s no secret that this isn’t the first time we’ve lost such a game. That’s just where we are in the league right now. There was a lot of passion from both teams. Unfortunately, we rarely make the right decisions, but we will continue to play with maximum intensity.”
Rouven Schröder: "If you want to stay in the league, then you need to win games. Today we saw a lot of good things on display, but we still have more to give. It was a must-win match and we need to keep the consistency up.
