Baku: "It's really disappointing"

The full post-match quotes from Mainz' 1-1 draw with Union Berlin.

The Zerofivers had to make do with a point on Wednesday evening.

Mainz went into this match wanting to make amends for their crushing defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig last week, but their endeavour was only partially successful, claiming a 1-1 draw at Union Berlin. Despite a good opening phase in which the Zerofivers scored, Union equalised, and despite having the man advantage for the second half, Mainz were not able to find a winner. The full quotes from the match are below:

Post-Match Quotes from Berlin

Rouven Schröder: "At the end of the day it’s two points dropped, because we had the man advantage since the start of the second half. We played well in the opening stages and we took the lead, but since that goal, Union were more active than us, and went on to equalise with the free kick. After the break we had more of the ball, but played a lot worse, so we only had two chances to score, and at the end we almost lost it but for a great save by  Flo Müller. We have to stay focused, keep our heads high, and go to Hoffenheim on the weekend and get three points.”

Alexander Hack:  “It feels like we dropped two points. I think that we did too little with our extra man, and we were too slow on the ball. When you have the extra man, you need to move the ball faster in possession, and we didn’t manage to do that. We had too many bad passes, and Union was better prepared for that. So of course it’s difficult.”

Kunde Malong: "We're disappointed because we were ahead and had a man advantage. We had a lot of possession, but not enough shots. We don't have much time to analyse things as our next game is in two days. We need to play with the right mentality and improve."

Flo Müller: "You need to a win a game when the other team has ten men for 50 minutes. We wanted to give our all and get another goal, so we're frustrated. You could see how important how the game was today by the fight shown. We want to play well on Saturday in our next home game against Hoffenheim."

Ridle Baku: "We're really frustrated. We had an extra man in the second half and couldn't find a goal. We were desperate to win this game against our direct rivals in the table. Our final pass hasn't been there in the past few weeks. It's disappointing, but we have to look ahead now and improve against Hoffenheim. We want all three points against them."
